About the event
We take shopping for granted nowadays, using our local shops (if we still have them) and going to the supermarket. We can order on-line and have a home delivery at our convenience. This talk will illustrate how different it was for our ancestors and how to recognise a surviving medieval shopfront in our own High Street. We will also look at shop signs and shop names. Do bring along any family ‘shops and shopping’ photographs or memorabilia for display. Did Napoleon really say that the English are a ‘nation of shopkeepers’? Come and find out!
Accessibility information
We aim to make our events as accessible as possible within the constraints of our listed building. We provide hearing loops and an accessible toilet. Concerts take place on the first floor, accessed via stairs. However, on request we can livestream the performance to a ground-floor viewing area.
We offer free Personal Assistant tickets…
